Which Visual And Auditory Devices Deter Pigeons?

Pigeon in the UK are a massive problem. These birds make a major nuisance of themselves in cities and can transmit diseases. There’s a good reason why they are known as “rats of the sky.” Not only that, these pests also cause millions of pounds in damage every year. What’s more, millions of pounds are spent trying to deter pigeons. If you’d like to know how to do this, here are some interesting ways, using visual and auditory methods.

Deter pigeons with these visual devices

Pigeons are rightfully terrified of birds of prey. They are especially scared of owls. Thankfully, these birds are not the brightest of birds. What this means is something as simple as placing a statue of an owl will actually scare them away. You can also use a bird of prey statue, if you can find one. Something to note is that these birds will soon become used to the statue. This is why it’s a good idea to move it around every few days.

Another way to deter pigeons is by placing shiny things outside. When the sun hits these objects, it reflects off them, and this scares the birds. Some things you can use include pans, CDs, tinfoil, mirrors or opened up coke cans. Hang these around areas where birds congregate, and this may help to scare them away. Something else that might help are those children’s windmills. These can also be placed around the area.

Sounds that work to ward off pigeons

Another way to deter pigeons is by using auditory devices which can also stop you having to get rid of fleas. To start with, do not be fooled by those “ultra-sonic” devices you see online. Those are basically scams. Birds hear basically at the same frequency as humans and cannot hear ultrasonic noises. Besides that, these sounds do not scare them away.

What does work are bird distress devices. These work on a simple principle. Basically, most birds have distress calls. When a bird is attacked by a predator, they use these calls. This warns other birds that there is a predator nearby. What these devices also do is play distress calls from other birds, such as crows and sparrows. Believe it or not, simply playing these calls does actually help to deter pigeons.

Another way to get rid of birds are with bird deterrent lasers if they decide to take refuge indoors. These devices use motion detection to detect birds.  When birds land somewhere nearby the device shoots out an assortment of red and green lasers. This irritates the birds and causes them to fly away.

Finally, you have bird tracks. These are basically metal tracks which are electrified. These can be placed on the edges of rooftops, gutters, or anywhere else that birds sit. When the birds land on these strips, they get an electric shock and this trains them to stay away.
