Autumn Pests Are Starting To Take Refuge Indoors

One of the biggest lies about pests is that they hibernate or go away during winter. This is absolute nonsense. The overwhelming majority of pests do not hibernate or go anywhere when it is cold, which is usually done by seasonal pests. Actually, the only place they are likely to go is your home. There’s a simple reason why this happens. You see, pests come indoors to escape the cold and also to look for food. This phenomena usually begins as it starts to get colder during autumn. But what should you know about this and what can you do about these autumn pests?

Why you must be on the lookout for autumn pests

With temperatures dropping, autumn pests are quickly becoming an issue. During this time a large variety of pests may come indoors. This can really include anything from cockroaches, to ants, moths, spiders and more. That being said, the biggest autumn pest is usually rodents and mouse infestations are common. Pests like mice and rats are constantly on the lookout for food and shelter. This makes your home highly appealing to them, especially during winter.

Different autumn pests will gravitate to different areas in your home. For example, cockroaches enjoy dark and damp places. This includes areas like kitchen sinks and basements / cellars. Many pests will also end up in your bathroom. A wide variety of pests – such as spiders and silverfish – love bathrooms as well as those bad cockroaches. This is simply because bathrooms are warm and wet. If you have cupboards in your bathroom, then pay particular attention to them. Cockroaches love bathroom cupboards.

Which other areas of the house attract pests?

Other areas that might end up with autumn pests include your attic, loft, or ceiling. These areas are preferred by rodents. Attics give them a great place to live, breed, and build their nests. The main reason why they enjoy this area is because they are not disturbed by people. Also watch out for empty rooms, or rooms that have a lot of clutter in them. Mice often end up hiding in large piles of clutter. These places provide them with ample materials for building their nests.

By far the biggest problem will be your kitchen. Remember, pests are primarily looking for food. This means they will try to live in a place that is closest to this source of food. Your kitchen also provides them with a great source of water. That’s why it’s important to keep your kitchen clean as we approach winter. You don’t want to give travelling pests a reason to set up shop in your home. To prevent this, keep food safely stored away. Also make sure that your counters, floors and walls are regularly cleaned. Finally, do not let dustbins overflow and make sure they are regularly emptied.
