Can you prevent cockroaches by fixing drips and leaks? Yes, and here’s why. You see, if you’ve ever dealt with cockroaches, then you know one thing. These pests are almost always found in a) dark areas and b) wet areas. Cockroach infestations almost always occur in places like your kitchen / bathroom sink cupboard, or a damp basement. But why does this happen? Well, cockroaches enjoy living in dark places which is part of the reason cockroaches are bad. A dark place generally means they are safer from predators and also humans. Along with this, cockroaches also need water to survive. The more cockroaches there are, the more water is needed. But what can you do about this problem and how can fixing drips and leaks prevent cockroaches?

How to prevent cockroaches by fixing drips and leaks

As we’ve mentioned, cockroaches need water. This is the simple reason why all drips and leaks should be immediately repaired. You want to cut off the cockroaches’ access to water as much as possible. Do leave even a drop for them to drink.

Something you should also do is wipe down your sink before going to bed. Most sinks have at least a few drops of water on them at all times. When you’re asleep, cockroaches emerge from their hiding places and feast on this water. In addition to this, don’t leave plates and dishes out to dry. These should be wiped down and then placed back in your cupboards. You’ll also want to wring out your sponges and dish clothes. If you have a serious problem with roaches, then consider packing these away as well. Finally, make sure that kitchen and bathroom taps are tightly closed before you go to bed.

Something you need to understand is that cockroaches are drawn by water and that they aren’t seasonal pests. These pests are constantly on the move and looking for sources of sustenance. This also includes sources of water. What this means is that if you have leaks, or a dripping tap this will more than likely attract cockroaches. This is why the easiest way to prevent cockroaches is simply by fixing this problem.

Other tips for preventing cockroaches

If you’re having a problem with this and need to prevent cockroaches, here are a few things you can do to stop them spreading diseases. First, make sure that drain spouts are directed far from your home. Also, if there is standing water around your house, get rid of this. For example, you may have buckets to collect rain. This is a bad idea and will attract all sorts of pests. Also put away pet water dishes when they are not being used.

Next, check all pipes for leaks. If you find these, then repair them. It’s also a good idea to look for the signs of water damage. This means there is a water source nearby and this should be taken care of. Last, if you have a problem with humidity, then you may want to invest in a humidifier.
