Fleas infest homes, just as much as they infest animals. Believe it or not this is true. What’s more, if fleas get into your home, they can be extremely difficult to get rid of. The reason for this is simple. Your home provides fleas with dozens and dozens of comfortable places to live. Some of these could be places which you’d never expect. For example, here are just a few of the unusual places that fleas infest.
When fleas infest your home, they usually go for places that are similar to an animal’s fur and can be spread by having a mouse infestation. Anything which is made out of material will quickly attract these pests. To start with, this includes furniture. What you have to understand is that any type of furniture can provide somewhere for fleas to hide.
This doesn’t only include your sofa. Armchairs also great for fleas. Plus, if you have a leather sofa, then don’t think it cannot get fleas! Then you have carpets. While fleas love carpets, they do not prefer them. No, fleas will usually go for rugs with long strands. Once again, this happens because these rugs mimic an animal’s fur. Also, don’t forget wall hangings, as these can also attract fleas.
Fleas infest beds as well which makes it hard to get rid of fleas. They enjoy this area mostly because of human body heat. The smell of humans also attracts fleas. These pests will infest every part of your bed and bedding. This will also include your headboard if you have one, and things like lampshades. Even worse, they could get into the base of your bed. If this happens, you’ll have enormous difficulty in getting rid of these pests.
Somewhere else that fleas infest are your curtains. This can actually become a major issue. You see, fleas often hide behind curtains. These areas are rarely disturbed by humans and fleas can live there, hassle free all year long because they aren’t seasonal pests. Also, some people rarely clean behind their curtains, which compounds the problem.
Another issue is dirty clothing like socks and also clothing in wash baskets. People very rarely think about this. After all, you wash the clothing and this kills the fleas, right? Not really, fleas simply jump off the clothing when you approach, and come back when you’re gone.
Finally, you have floor cracks and the places your cats frequent. Fleas which are living in carpets often move into cracks in walls and floors. They do this to get away from humans or when you’re vacuuming and cleaning. With cats, fleas often live in the areas your cats often go. If your cats has a place where it likes to sit or lie, then there could be fleas nearby.
